NTEB HOUSE CHURCH SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE: Scripture Calls Us To Step Away From Denominational ‘Churchianity’ And Keep The True Christian Faith

by Geoffrey Grider

Today may be somewhat of a 'hard' message, but one that will free you from denominational shackles and usher you into the glorious freedom of the gospel of the grace of God.

Right from the very beginning days of the early church, the temptation to divide and then reassemble together in cliquish groups was nearly irresistible and Paul warned against it in places like 1 Corinthians 1:12 and 1 Corinthians 3:4. Those warnings went mostly unheeded and in our day we see the fruit of that with the dozens and dozens of different denominations all claiming to be the right way and claiming to represent the true faith. Paul tells us that he 'kept the faith', so what exactly what faith was that?

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8 (KJB)

Since we don't have time, or the desire, to do an in-depth study on denominational differences this morning I would like to bring you a message on 'the faith' that Paul who is our apostle kept, and how we can follow him as he follows Jesus Christ. Some of you may be surprised to discover that, instead of keeping the faith, you have actually been keeping the 'articles of incorporation' of your particular church denomination, which is not biblical Christianity at all. Today may be somewhat of a 'hard' message, but one that will free you from denominational shackles and usher you into the glorious freedom of the gospel of the grace of God.
