The term 'dry places' is mentioned 3 times in your King James Bible, twice in the gospels and once in Psalm 105, and in all three places it is a message and a prophetic warning to the Jews and the nation of Israel. But there is much for us born again Christians, living here in the tail end of the Church Age, to glean from these passages.
"He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river." Psalm 105:41 (KJB)
In Matthew 12 and in Luke 11, we see the 'dry places' as being places where unclean spirits cast out cannot find rest, and there is a reason for that according to Psalm 105. It's because Jesus is that fount of 'living water' that refreshes, restores and rehydrates those dry places so that we never thirst again. It is in the dry places in our lives that Jesus does His best work. The woman of Samaria in John 4 met Jesus at the well, and He told her that if she drank of the well water she would, obviously, thirst again. But then dropped the bomb on her that He had water that, if she drank of it, would never thirst again! This is that water, from that Rock, that is the Living Water of new life in Jesus Christ.
