NTEB RADIO BIBLE STUDY: We Look At Suicide In The Bible And What Christians Need To Do When Struggling With Dark And Suicidal Thoughts

by Geoffrey Grider

Pious platitudes and motivational maxims will not get the job done, but the scripture of truth absolutely will. If you are struggling to hold on, I pray this Bible study will be a lifeline to you or someone you know.

Over the past few months, many people have privately reached out to me with stories of struggling with dark thoughts, suicidal thoughts, asking questions about how the Bible views suicide. The Bible is not silent on this issue, even though it does not address it directly. Perhaps the most well-known suicide in the Bible is the traitor Judas, hanging himself on the tree to mock the upcoming sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary.

"Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself." Matthew 27:3-5 (KJB)

On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we are going to look at some of the places in your King James Bible that records instances when people, saved and lost, committed suicide as a final answer to the question placed before them. It is not the unforgivable sin, but it is absolutely not the way you want your life to come to an end. But when people get overwhelmed with life's struggles, sometimes thoughts of suicide will be entertained as a solution to their difficulties. Let me just say, as someone who has struggled personally with this issue, suicide is never the answer, so don't do it. But what is the answer? Join us tonight on this very special edition of Rightly Dividing, as we look for hardcore truths from the word of God to help those suffering right now. Pious platitudes and motivational maxims will not get the job done, but the scripture of truth absolutely will. If you are struggling to hold on, I pray this Bible study will be a lifeline to you.

"It Is No Secret that the Current US Administration Is Encouraging the Houthis to Be More Aggressive"

"It Is No Secret that the Current US Administration Is Encouraging the Houthis to Be More Aggressive"

  • The Arabs say that the Biden administration made a mistake when it decided last year to remove the Houthis from the international terrorist list. The Biden administration's move, they noted, has emboldened one of the most dangerous terrorist groups in the Middle East and endangered international peace and security.

  • Ultimately, the terrorism of Iran and its terrorist groups will reach the US, and, as with Afghanistan, it is the Biden administration that will justly be blamed.

  • The 22 members of the Arab League urged the Biden administration to re-classify the Iran-backed Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. The attacks "constitute... a real threat to... energy supplies and the stability of the global economy.... harm international peace and security, and pose a threat to international commercial shipping lines." — Asharq Al-Awsat, January 24, 2022.

  • "What is the Biden administration waiting for in order to re-evaluate its position? Does it want to continue being a spectator?" - Atef Saadawy, Egyptian strategic and international affairs expert, Sky News Arabia, January 18, 2022.

  • The re-designation of the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization "will... facilitate the process of establishing peace in Yemen and a political solution that preserves its unity and territorial integrity and the security and stability of neighboring countries." — Atef Saadawy, Sky News Arabia, January 18, 2022.

  • The time has come for the US administration... "to end its contradictory positions and flabby handling of the Yemeni crisis, which has exacerbated matters even more." — Atef Saadawy, Sky News Arabia, January 18, 2022.

  • "What is happening now in Yemen is the responsibility of the US.... The first decision of the Biden administration... was to remove the Houthis from the list of terrorism, and this is a big mistake. Iran wants to use the Houthis to pressure the Americans to revive the nuclear deal." — Emad Adin Adib, prominent Egyptian writer, journalist and businessman, El Watan News, January 25, 2022.

  • "[T]he Biden administration needs to show that it knows what is happening in the Middle East....Iran invested every dollar [from the Obama administration] in the service of its expansion project [in the Arab countries] and the empowerment of its militias in the region." — Khairallah Khairallah, Lebanese writer and political analyst, Alraimedia.com, January 22, 2022.

  • "Moreover, it is no secret that the current US administration is encouraging the Houthis to be more aggressive. They [the Houthis] are more hostile towards the US itself. A few weeks ago, the Houthis stormed the US embassy in [the Yemeni capital of] Sana'a.... It seems that the US administration is still convinced that Iran wants an agreement in Vienna and that the Houthis are still searching for a peaceful solution in Yemen." — Khairallah Khairallah, Alraimedia.com, January 22, 2022.

  • Re-designating the Houthi militia as an international terrorist organization is "a step in the right direction." — Eyad Abu Shakra, Lebanese journalist and political commentator, Reuters, January 20, 2022.

  • [M]any Arabs have lost confidence in the US because it has chosen to align itself with Iran, whose forces and militias are occupying Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon and are now targeting the UAE and Saudi Arabia -- not to mention positioning themselves in America's soft underbelly in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua. In the eyes of these Arabs, the Biden administration is inflicting massive damage on US interests and allies and helping Iran export its terrorism throughout the world.

  • It now remains to be seen whether anyone in the Biden administration will wake up to the magnitude of the Iranian threat and actions, redesignate the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and attempt to salvage the credibility of the United States.

Many Arabs say that they cannot understand why the Biden administration still has not re-designated the Houthis as a terrorist organization, especially in the wake of the recent missile and drone attacks on the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Yesterday, January 30, 2022, the Iran-backed militia, the Houthis in Yemen, launched a missile at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), for the third time in as many weeks.

Many Arabs say that they cannot understand why the Biden administration still has not re-designated the Houthis as a terrorist organization, especially in the wake of the recent missile and drone attacks on the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The Arabs say that the Biden administration made a mistake when it decided last year to remove the Houthis from the international terrorist list. The Biden administration's move, they noted, has emboldened one of the most dangerous terrorist groups in the Middle East and endangered international peace and security.

Some Arabs believe that the Biden administration's lenient approach towards the Houthi militia is designed to appease the mullahs in Iran with the hope that they will sign a new nuclear deal with the US and the other world powers.

NTEB HOUSE CHURCH SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE: Jesus Christ Is Both Saviour And Stumblingstone, Which One You Get Depends On You

New post on Now The End Begins

NTEB HOUSE CHURCH SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE: Jesus Christ Is Both Saviour And Stumblingstone, Which One You Get Depends On You

by Geoffrey Grider

To reject Jesus' offer of pardon is to experience the full weight of His judgment upon you, something the Bible likens to being crushed by a very large and very heavy stone.

In both Testaments of your King James Bible, Jesus Christ is alternately referred to as the Saviour and a stumblingtone, the friend of sinners and the stone that will grind you to powder. Which one you experience depends completely on what Jesus Christ is to you personally. For the sinner who trusts Him to save them from Hell, Jesus is the best friend they've ever had. For the one who rejects Him and decides to 'roll the dice' to see if their good deeds will outweigh their bad, Jesus is their mortal enemy.

"Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. nd many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken." Isaiah 8:13-15 (KJB)

Jesus is not the pusillanimous, split-beard wearing and peace sign flashing fairytale figure presented to you by the Roman Catholic Church, not by a long shot. He requires exactly zero input from Mary, the saints or anyone else. He is KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS, He is the great God, and yet He was so wanting you to get saved from the curse of Adam that He took your sins on His body, and paid your price to get out of Hell. Jesus Christ is the most loving and most generous Person you will ever know, in this life or any other. But to reject His offer of pardon is to experience the full weight of His judgment upon you, something the Bible likens to being crushed by a very large and very heavy stone. Today I would like to bring you a topic not preached on much anymore, Jesus Christ the Saviour and Stumblingstone, and we hope it will be a blessing to you.

AN UPDATE AND SOME GOOD NEWS ON BRIAN

 Hi everyone

We have some good news - that Brian was allowed home from hospital this week, praise the Lord! Brian and Gilly (& Tim) do thank all of you for your love and concern and especially for your prayers for them. The kidney issue (excess potassium) was quickly dealt with, and heart issues seem to be the main concern.

He found the consultant was excellent, and Brian was able to pray with his assistant. He was also able to pray with a couple of Christians there, and also to share the gospel with two of the nurses and some consulting staff (from India), praise the Lord.

He was offered recuperation at Selby Hospital, about 22 miles away, but opted to go home, which "has been the best thing that we've done", as his nursing care by Gilly and Tim is excellent! Brian has lost at least a stone, and aims to keep that off, and his legs are doing well, but he still has a lot of pain in his left knee. However, he is noticeably recovering and getting stronger.

Side effects like potassium affecting his kidneys (as said) have been dealt with though, thankfully, and he will have a chest X-Ray in due course, with regular blood tests. The district nurse has been good, providing equipment and helpful creams.

Recovery is a slow process, and he is still very tired, but again, they are so grateful for your prayer support. Thank you. Brian is looking forward to teaching at the Conference near Cromer with Jonathan in May this year - more about that below.

Valerie Heard

For those who know her: News is not positive (in the natural) and she has been having many scans and has started radiotherapy. She still aims to join the Zoom calls that many of you see her on.

Her husband John (in a dementia care home) is more alert and communicative now. As mentioned before, they were locked in due to Covid in the home recently. This meant that he was able to see grandchildren via video calls, which he enjoyed. However, visitors (mainly their son and daughter) are allowed in again now.

Cromer Conference

As mentioned, this is still scheduled for 2nd May for 4 (or 5) nights. For those who don't know, there will be Bible Studies by Brian (on Revelation 1-4) and also by Jonathan Hill.

Bookings are not high yet, and Anne Powell has been asked to release rooms for guests who are not joining the Bible Studies. So, if you would like to go please get your form and deposit to Anne very soon, as once these rooms are gone they are gone.

If you need a form just reply to me and I'll email you one (single page) for you to print, complete and send to her. Thanks. (Note: If government rules cause the Centre to close again, then deposits/balances can either be reimbursed or forwarded to the next break.)

Zoom Studies

For those involved please don't forget that Grace Turpin's next study in the series on Genesis is tomorrow (Sunday) at 7pm.

She is starting Genesis 18 to 20 on Abraham, Lot and Sodom.

If you are interested in these studies and don't have the log on information just reply to me for the Zoom details.

Thank you again for all your interest and prayer support.

Blessings

Keith & Pat

The Severed Head of Santa Claus: The Persecution of Christians, December 2021

  • Days before Christmas, on December 17, a Muslim cleric told his congregation, following mosque prayers, that wishing non-Muslims a Merry Christmas is "like congratulating murderers and pedophiles" — Breitbart.com, December 23, 2021, Canada.

  • The imam concluded by calling on Allah to "give strength to Islam and Muslims, to humiliate infidels and polytheists, to destroy the enemies of (our) religion and to annihilate heretics and atheists." — Breitbart.com, December 23, 2021, Canada.

  • "Get lost, this [France] is not your country...." — Muslims confronting a Catholic procession, Medforth.biz, December 11, 2021, Nanterre, France.

  • After decapitating a Christian pastor, Islamic State-linked Muslims handed the pastor's severed head to his widow and ordered her to deliver it to the police. — Daily Mail, December 17, Mozambique.

  • "The [ISIS-linked] group... forced younger, healthy-looking, and lighter-skinned women and girls in their custody to 'marry' their fighters, who enslave and sexually abuse them." — Human Rights Watch, December 7, 2021, Mozambique.

  • "Quranic texts are not the only way to teach Arabic in schools. There are other methods such as literature, poetry and rhetoric.... The government always backs down from any removal of Quranic texts in school curricula or the subject of religion, fearing attacks and criticism by extremist groups." — Isaac Hanna, journalist and head of the Egyptian Association for Enlightenment, Al Monitor, December 15, 2021, Egypt.

On December 31, unknown vandals defaced Istanbul's Kadıköy Protestant Church by writing "Allah 1" on its door. The church is just the latest of several in Istanbul alone to be desecrated in recent years. On May 8, 2020, a man tried to burn the entrance door of Surp Asdvadzadzni Armenian Church in Istanbul (pictured), which had been repeatedly attacked with hate-filled graffiti, among other desecrations. Hate for Christmas; Violence against Christians

The Islamic State: As always happens before the festive Christmas season, professional Islamic terrorists sought to incite Muslims to launch "lone wolf" attacks on Christians. On December 20, the ISIS-operated Rocket.Chat communication platform posted a drawing of a veiled jihadist brandishing a bloody knife in one hand while holding the severed head of Santa Claus in the other. Messages on the platform included:

"With the advent of the so-called polytheistic celebrations that the unbelievers are experiencing these days, we send a message to our monotheist brothers in Europe, America, Australia, Canada, Russia, and other countries of unbelief and apostasy.... Attack the citizens of crusader coalition countries with your knives, run them over in the streets, detonate bombs on them, and spray them with bullets."

Russia and Ukraine: The Sword and the Shield

  • Putin's propaganda tries to portray NATO as the putative invader. At the same time, he makes much of Russia's money out of selling oil and gas to NATO members in Europe who, in turn, allow his money to be nested in their banks.

  • Putin tries to pose as a potential victim of a non-existent aggression.

  • Putin seems to be dreaming of a cordon sanitaire for Russia, one that is more of a cultural-political shield rather than a glacis in military terms. He wants Russia surrounded by Finlandized countries from China to the Caspian Basin, the Middle East and East and Central Europe.

  • Rather than threatening invasion, Putin should try to make his Russia so attractive that Ukrainians and others wish to choose it as a model rather than looking to old Western democracies. That, however, means that Russia must change and deal with its centuries-long identity crisis between European aspirations and Asiatic fears.

By the time you read this article, Russian troops may have entered Ukraine or even captured its capital Kiev in a blitzkrieg that would have made Field Marshal von Paulus green with envy. Or, maybe you would witness nothing but more sabre rattling by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two contrasting possibilities, even if one is closer to a probability, illustrate the fact that no one knows what Putin, the consummate poker player keeping his cards close to his chest, has in mind.

At the risk of ending up with egg on my face, I belong to the group who think there would be no full-scale invasion. To back that assertion one could cite three reasons.

COULD THE EVIL ERDOGAN BE IN TROUBLE IN TURKEY - Istanbul's Mayor: Erdoğan's Worst Nightmare

Istanbul's Mayor: Erdoğan's Worst Nightmare

  • "If we lose Istanbul, we lose Turkey." — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

  • It appears that [Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu's] "terrorists" are actually people who are being probed for links with illegal organizations but who have not been prosecuted -- let alone being found guilty by courts.

  • This kind of intimidation, further victimizing Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in the eyes of the voters, will simply boost his popularity -- and at a time when Erdoğan's ratings are plummeting.

  • Erdoğan, it seems, did not want opposition mayors to gain further popularity by helping the poor.

  • It would be premature to conclude that there will be a historic shift in Turkish politics in 2023. All the same, the reports are real, and so are Erdoğan's fears, panic and increasingly reckless governance.

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has been running a campaign of intimidation and hatred against Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu (pictured), which has paradoxically boosted him as a perfect contender against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the next presidential elections in 2023. According to polls, if the two go head to head, İmamoğlu would beat Erdoğan by 48.7% to 36.6%. (Photo by Ozan Kose/AFP via Getty Images)

Turkey's secular state establishment was shocked when a young militant Islamist won the mayoral elections in Turkey's biggest city, Istanbul, in 1994. "Who wins Istanbul wins Turkey," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at that time Istanbul's mayor, would often say. History would prove him right.

Erdoğan's tenure as Istanbul's mayor ended when in 1997 when he recited a pro-Islamist poem. "The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets, and the faithful our soldiers" earned him a 10-month prison term for "inciting religious hatred," four of which he served. In 2002, Erdoğan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) swept to victory in national elections.
