NTEB RADIO BIBLE STUDY: We Look At Suicide In The Bible And What Christians Need To Do When Struggling With Dark And Suicidal Thoughts

by Geoffrey Grider

Pious platitudes and motivational maxims will not get the job done, but the scripture of truth absolutely will. If you are struggling to hold on, I pray this Bible study will be a lifeline to you or someone you know.

Over the past few months, many people have privately reached out to me with stories of struggling with dark thoughts, suicidal thoughts, asking questions about how the Bible views suicide. The Bible is not silent on this issue, even though it does not address it directly. Perhaps the most well-known suicide in the Bible is the traitor Judas, hanging himself on the tree to mock the upcoming sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary.

"Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself." Matthew 27:3-5 (KJB)

On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we are going to look at some of the places in your King James Bible that records instances when people, saved and lost, committed suicide as a final answer to the question placed before them. It is not the unforgivable sin, but it is absolutely not the way you want your life to come to an end. But when people get overwhelmed with life's struggles, sometimes thoughts of suicide will be entertained as a solution to their difficulties. Let me just say, as someone who has struggled personally with this issue, suicide is never the answer, so don't do it. But what is the answer? Join us tonight on this very special edition of Rightly Dividing, as we look for hardcore truths from the word of God to help those suffering right now. Pious platitudes and motivational maxims will not get the job done, but the scripture of truth absolutely will. If you are struggling to hold on, I pray this Bible study will be a lifeline to you.
