The man with the withered hand had a very pressing need, he needed a healing, and Jesus was a thousand percent capable of giving it to him on the spot, but in order to receive that healing, the man was asked to do something that was not only hard to do, for him, it was an impossibility.
In Mark 3, we see the amazing story of Jesus and the man with the withered hand, and incredibly, what we are about to read about him is only the sub-text for the larger issue of the rejection of Jesus Christ by the 'conservative Right' of the Pharisees, and the 'liberal Left' of the Herodians. Tie it all together and it becomes a spiritual bombshell with eternal ramifications.
"And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him." Mark 3:1-6 (KJB)
We live in a day and time where bible prophecies over 2,000 years old are beginning to come to pass before our very eyes, and like Habakkuk 1:5 tells us, we are seeing it but not believing it. The man with the withered hand had a very pressing need, he needed a healing, and Jesus was a thousand percent capable of giving it to him on the spot, which He did. But in order to receive that healing, the man was asked to do something that was not only hard to do, for him, it was an impossibility. This morning I would like to bring you a message on when Jesus asks us to do the impossible, and how we can have the victory just as the man with the withered hand did. Impossible faith? Absolutely right.
