Phillip asked Jesus to show him the Father, and He certainly did. Phillip was looking right at Him the whole time.
Today here in America we are celebrating Father's Day, and many fathers, including myself, will be spending the day with their children in backyard BBQs, at restaurants, and in living rooms to celebrate the bond between father and child. In the Bible, we see the apostles asking Jesus to 'show us the Father', and then receive the shocking reply.
"Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?" John 14:8,9 (KJB)
In many churches this morning, a message will be preached directed at fathers in the congregation, in the hopes of inspiring them to be a better father to their children, and that certainly has value. Or, the message will be aimed at the children and encouraging them to honor their fathers and mothers, that pretty good, too. But today I thought it might be more edifying to preach a message on our heavenly Father, and rekindle our relationship with Him as His blood-bought children. Phillip asked Jesus to show him the Father, and He certainly did. Phillip was looking right at Him the whole time. Let's take a few minutes this morning to get our eyes off of this sin-cursed world, and onto the Father of Lights.
