In Ezra, we see how the gentile Cyrus called the Jews who were freely willing to 'get in the game', an amazing thing if you think about it. A gentile leading the Jews to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.
After the 70 years of captivity in Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar the king, God 'stirred up the spirit' of His servant Cyrus, king of Persia, to lead the charge amongst the Jews, to return to Jerusalem and build the house of the LORD. The most amazing thing about all this that God was looking for people who wanted to do this of their own free will, not because they had to or were forced to, but because their spirit rejoiced in getting something done for the LORD. Ahh, that's it, that's the message I'm looking for this morning.
"Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem. And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem." Ezra 1:3,4 (KJB)
One of the things that motivates me more than anything else is the thought that God will allow me to get as much done for Him as is in my own heart to accomplish, to serve Him not because He will crush me if I don't, but to serve Him as a 'freewill offering' because I am so glad He saved me from Hell. When we read the account in Ezra we see some amazing things contained in those passages. We see the fact that Cyrus was mentioned by name as the one who would lead the Jews by Isaiah 250 years before he was born, Isaiah 44:28 and Isaiah 45:1, a gentile king raised up by God to do His will. We also see how the gentile Cyrus called the Jews who were freely willing to 'get in the game', an amazing thing if you think about it. A gentile leading the Jews to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. That'll preach, brother, that will preach. Today I would like to encourage you who are willing to get in the game here in these closing moments of the Church Age, and help fill some of those last, remaining seats on Flight #777.
